The Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program is a national initiative that provides an alternative to arrest and incarceration for individuals whose low-level criminal behavior is driven by behavioral health needs or poverty. Instead of booking a person into jail, law enforcement officers can divert them to a community-based system of care, connecting them with intensive case management and support services.
The goal of the program is to interrupt the cycle of arrest and incarceration by addressing the root causes of a person's struggles, such as substance use, mental health challenges, or homelessness.
How Hope for Homies is Helping
Hope for Homies is a key partner in the LEAD program for the Tulalip Tribes. Our team serves as a crucial point of contact, providing hands-on support to individuals who are referred to the program. We offer the vital, person-to-person support that helps stabilize a person's life and gives them a foundation to build on.
Specifically, we are helping by:
-
Securing Housing: We assist individuals who were facing foreclosure and housing instability, providing them with a safe and secure place to live.
-
Meeting Basic Needs: Our team provides consistent, tangible support, including weekly deliveries of water and food.
-
Connecting to Resources: We help with day-to-day needs, providing phones to stay connected and offering transportation and support to attend vital doctor's appointments.
Through this partnership, Hope for Homies acts as a bridge, ensuring that individuals diverted from the justice system receive the compassionate care and practical support they need to move forward.
